“Aways outside the Box”

In an increasingly digital age I wanted to stress phyical interaction with the work as the true full experience

I like many artists I wanted to use lock down to develop new ideas, reflecting on past projects I was stuck by how many of them arrived in my mind almost fully formed with little inkling to where they had originated.

While organised chaos (or simply Chaos) has long been my friend I resolved to have a more structured approached with a fixed Starting point to reflect back to as I explored forward.

I found myself drawn to the idea of reflection as a function, of course any work of art invites the observer to reflect but I wanted to isolate the function in a way that the individual experiencing the piece could use it as a conduit to look past the imitate object and channel their focus in any direction they wished.

The circular Labyrinth (usually drawn or marked on the ground) has a history of representing a spiritual pilgrimage, a journey that can be undertaken in a single location, my work brings that experience even closer allowing the user to undertake a journey using only their sense of touch if they so wish.

In this way the Labyrinth cube (sized to be comfortably held in two hands), serves as a functional reflective device to aid personal thought or even more serious meditation.
